Final Events Leading up to the Close of Probation

Topic 1: No Fear of Final Victory for the Church

Here are some words of encouragement as we approach the time of trouble:

1. “The prophecies which the great I Am has given in His word, uniting link after link in the chain of events, from eternity in the past to eternity in the future, tell us where we are today in the procession of the ages, and what may be expected in the time to come.

All that prophecy has foretold as coming to pass until the present time, has been traced on the pages of history, and we may be assured that all which is yet to come will be fulfilled in its order.” Maranatha, Ch. 60. A Crisis Ahead.

2. There is no need to doubt, to be fearful that the work will not succeed. God is at the head of the work, and He will set everything in order. If matters need adjusting at the head of the work God will attend to that, and work to right every wrong. Let us have faith that God is going to carry the noble ship; which bears the people of God safely into port.  2SM 390 (1892).  LDE 521.

3. Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members, that there are tares amid the wheat… although there are evils existing in the church, and will be until the end of the world, the church in these last days is to be the light of the world that is polluted and demoralized by sin. The church, enfeebled and defective, needing to be reproved, warned, and counselled, is the only object upon earth upon which Christ bestows His supreme regard.  TM 45, 49 (1893).

4. Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads–it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they cannot be moved–just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already.  4BC 1161 (1902).

5. The message of the third angel is the last to the little flock, to prepare them for the time of trouble. When this message is finished, the four winds will be loosed. ADRE September 1850, p. 10.10

The four winds are being held in check until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads. Seven angels are waiting to pour out the seven vials of the wrath of God.  ARSH May 23, 1854, p. 141.12.

6. Before the work is closed up and the sealing of God’s people is finished, we shall receive the outpouring of the Spirit of God.  Mar. Chap. 204.

7. So should the followers of Christ, as they approach the time of trouble make every exertion to place themselves in a proper light before the people, to disarm prejudice, and to avert the danger which threatens liberty of conscience.  4SP 432.3.

8. Fearful are the scenes which call forth this exclamation from the heavenly voice, Rev. 12:12. The wrath of satan increases as his time grows short, and his work of deceit and destruction reaches its culmination in the time of trouble.

God’s long-suffering has ended, the world has rejected His mercy, despised His love, and trampled upon His Law. The wicked have passed the boundary of their probation, and the Lord withdraws his protection and leaves them to the mercy of the leader they have chosen.

satan will have power over those who have yielded themselves to his control, and he will plunge the inhabitants of the earth into one great, final trouble.

As the angels of God cease to hold in check the fierce winds of human passion, all the elements of strife will be let loose. The whole world will be involved in ruin more terrible than that which came upon Jerusalem of old.  4SP. 441.

9. “The work which the church has failed to do in a time of peace and prosperity she will have to do in a terrible crisis under most discouraging, forbidding circumstances. The warnings that world conformity has silenced or withheld must be given under the fiercest opposition from enemies of the faith. And at that time the superficial, conservative class, whose influence has steadily retarded the progress of the work, will renounce the faith and take their stand with its avowed enemies, toward whom their sympathies have long been tending. These apostates will then manifest the most bitter enmity, doing all in their power to oppress and malign their former brethren and to excite indignation against them. This day is just before us. The members of the church will individually be tested and proved.”  Testimonies 5, p. 463.

10. I saw that God had children who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They have not rejected the light upon it. And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully…

“The commencement of that time of trouble” here mentioned does not refer to the time when the plagues shall begin to be poured out, but to a short period just before they are poured out, while Christ is in the sanctuary. At that time, while the work of salvation is closing, trouble will be coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the third angel. At that time the “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured. EW. 85.3.
