Homosexuality and Human Legislation. Pt. 9
The Canadian Parliament has introduced a bill to Parliament, C-38, that, if passed, will redefine marriage to be a union between two individuals, regardless of gender. The government’s basis for doing this is that, to withhold marriage from same sex persons is an infringement of their human rights, according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. My question is, seeing that marriage is a human rights issue, could not Christians accept the fact that individuals of the same sex have the human right to marry each other and to have that marriage accepted by everyone, including Christians?
Dear Reader,
It is a fact that every human being has a right to marry. It is also very good that a Charter of Rights and Freedoms exist in order for human beings in Canada to enjoy their rights and freedoms in peace and security without discrimination.
The question we need to ask ourselves, however, is, who determines what our rights and freedoms are? Well, we may say that the penal code tells us what rights and freedoms we have and have not. For example, the penal code prohibits stealing and murder; so we do not have these rights. But we persist in asking, how did the founders of the penal code come to the conclusion that stealing and murder were wrong? The answer, in a nutshell, is that this moral code of ethics was passed on to them (that is, to society) by the former generations who eventually got it from God. And this has nothing to do with ‘religion.’ Unless we subscribe to the impossible and erroneous belief of atheism, most people on earth believe that man’s moral code came from God; and that it was given that humanity may co-exist happily and securely.
God’s moral code for humanity is found in the Ten Commandments; and every society, regardless of its religious beliefs, incorporates all or some of the Ten Commandments in its way of life. Search all ancient societies and one will find that this is true, regardless of their religions. And again, where did society eventually get this moral code from? The answer again, is of course, from God. It matters not that some societies were not practicing all of God’s moral code; what matters is that God did give mankind a moral code to live by, and that this moral code is known to humanity, either in part or in its entirety, as is seen in their written laws and codes of conduct and behaviour.
It must also be noted that when God gave man this moral code to live by, He told mankind that should humans disregard this moral code of ethics they would destroy themselves, and that in the end He would have to destroy them because they themselves would even destroy the earth. For example, John the Revelator writes, (Rev 11:18 KJV) And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Therefore, dear reader, the answer to the opening question is, while human beings in Canada, or elsewhere, have rights and freedoms, not all rights and freedoms are legitimate and expedient to have, as we have said earlier concerning theft and murder. Rights and freedoms are only admissible when they do not contradict the moral code that God has given humanity. It matters not what our Charters may permit or not permit. In fact, if any government creates a Charter that nullifies or damages God’s moral code, then that government will be held accountable to God for that misdemeanour and for leading its citizens astray from God’s directives.
God’s moral code is found in the Bible and in other holy books of other religions. God made it clear that His moral code includes sexual ethics, how and with whom sex can be enjoyed. God made it very clear that sex is for marriage, and that marriage is to be between a man and a woman, or, a male and a female, and no other. This was the pattern for both man and animals. Any other form was prohibited on the pain of death. For a government to offer any other form of sexual ethics for its citizens is to be condemned by God. Any Charter of Rights and Freedoms that contradicts God’s moral code of sexual ethics is in open defiance of God’s morality for humanity. Men and women do not have the right to practice same sex intercourse; this is no more a human right as is incest or bestiality; all these forms of sexual behaviour are condemned by our wise and judicious Creator.
For example, concerning marriage God said, (Mat 19:3 KJV) The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
(Mat 19:4 KJV) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
(Mat 19:5 KJV) And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
(Mat 19:6 KJV) Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Jesus in the Bible makes it very clear that God’s pattern for humanity is male and female. No man must put this asunder. To do so would jeopardize
God’s ideal for humanity. Finally, another text of sexual behaviour for humanity to live by:
1 Corinthians 6:9, 10 (NIV)
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders, 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
God makes it very clear that homosexuality is not a human rights issue. The right to perform homosexuality is a misnomer and does not exist as far as God’s moral code for humanity is concerned. It would be in the government’s and in Canadian society’s best interest that this legislation be struck down. Never must the government pit its citizens against their Creator. This will only be to their ruin. May God grant us the wisdom and courage to follow his moral code in our sexual behaviour. God bless.
