Prophets and Prophecy in the New Testament
1. There were several prophets in the New Testament. There was Judas, Silas, Agabus. Acts. 15:32; Acts 21:10.
2. It’s by the prophet John God had the book of Revelation written. Rev. 1:1-3.
3. One does not invent prophecy, but God gives it to His chosen ones. 2 Pet. 1:21;Eph. 4:11.
4. God has promised in a special way to pour out His Spirit on His people in the last days of earth’s history. Joel 2:28, 29.
5. The reception of a prophecy is not restricted to men, but women as well. Acts 21:8, 9
6. Prophecy is an indication that God is leading his church. 1 Cor. 14:23-25.
7. Not all prophecy is genuine, there are false prophets that deceive people. 2 Pet. 2:1;
8. The Apostle Paul specifically warned about these false prophets. Acts 20:29, 30.
9. Jesus also warned about these false brethren. Mark 13:22, 23.
10. We are to test the prophets by the Word of God. Isa. 8:20; 1 John 4:1.
