Where there is smoke there is fire! (Global Evidences of a Universal Flood Among the Nations of Earth).
In my previous letter we looked at the reasons for why God destroyed this earth by a global flood. (Some tell us that the flood took place around 2349 BC, eg. Annals of World History by USSHER, 2008 ed.). I also included two YouTube presentations on the global evidences for a universal flood. These were: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd5-dHxOQhg and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJNtUEzRGxM. Here is another very good presentation I encourage you to view on global evidences of a deluge that covered the entire earth: https://amazingdiscoveries.tv/media/7/102-a-universal-flood/. The author of this third one was a notorious atheist, a scientist, who himself became a Christian. These documentaries are unfortunately only in English.
One of the purposes of this months letter is to establish that if indeed there was a universal flood that destroyed all life on earth except those that God preserved as the Bible states, this means that all human beings today are obliged, if they care, to take warning and return to God asking pardon and forgiveness for our rebellion against Him, just as the people of Noah’s time were asked to do, but who refused to accept the warning of destruction and consequently perished in the flood waters. We read of this account in Genesis 6-8.
Once again let me state clearly that God did not destroy His creation because of anger towards, hatred of, or frustration with, humans who turned from worship of, and from obedience to their Creator. For one hundred and twenty years God warned them to return to Him and put away their rebellion. In the great struggle between good and evil, most humans chose to follow evil and to reject God’s morality. They chose to be led by satan and not by the Creator. When God saw that men were totally committed to destroying their world with evil, He intervened in order to preserve righteousness in the earth. Please let us be wise this time round and not repeat the fatal mistakes of our fore fathers. In John 6:37 Jesus says, him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. It’s your choice my friend to take refuge in Him.
Now tell me folks, if there was a global flood which destroyed the earth and all life except 8 individuals, do you suppose that when the earth was repopulated that the grandparents will have been constantly talking to their children about this great event even pointing to the ark which remained in their sight for some generations? Indeed, parents would have pointed out to each new generation the stories of creation, the fall, and the flood. For over five hundred years, the minimum, people would have learnt about the great flood from Shem, who died at the age of 500 years. Genesis 11:11.
And if we assume that most generations would have been told of the creation, the fall, and the flood, can we assume that most nations on earth would have stories of the flood in their folklore? The best way to find out is to check the folklore of all ancient nations as is possible to see if they had this belief in their folklore. The one caveat we would look out for is to be sure that there were no Christian and Islamic influences that might have had some influence in the formation of their flood stories. Christian influence on the folklore of ancient nations, if at all possible, would have to have begun from about AD 70 when the Christians were scattered from Jerusalem before its destruction in AD 70.
The Islamic influence on some nations would come only after the 6th century AD, and would not have been as far reaching as the Christian influence. However, neither of these two religions, including Judaism, could have significantly impacted the origins’ world-view of ancient nations as regards a world flood, because we know that archeology has found flood accounts that are much older than Judaism and the writing of the biblical account. In my research I have studied this topic of the flood and have found that most nations across the earth contain stories, traces, and whole epics on the flood incident some dating back as mentioned well before the biblical account. Of all these flood accounts many people have found that the Bible contains the most reasonable and well coordinated of these accounts.
Anyone can have access to these facts with not much effort. If you have a computer and are able to go ‘online’ you can type in ‘world’ or ‘global flood’ or ‘Noah’s flood,’ ‘flood mythologies’ or anything that is indicative of a global flood; if you are connected with a university or a library system, you can similar access these flood accounts. Of course you will also find all sorts of contrary so-called scientific explanations for these flood narratives, all attempting to destroy the biblical narrative of the global flood. Just disregards these and follow the evidence for yourself. So, let us just quickly review the evidence from among the nations of men. There are several books, magazines, and articles along with DVDs that one may use. Among others I happen to have J. A. Coleman’s Dictionary of Mythology: An A-Z of the Themes, Legends and Heroes. Bickels Yard, London, 2008. Here is what we find.
Australian: The rain-spirits, the Wandjina, destroyed the first humans because of their wickedness and started a new race teaching them how to behave properly.
Central American: The Aztecs and their god Titlacahuan, the Mayans with their god Hunab, and some Mexican tribes with Hokomata their god sent a flood to destroy humans, later restoring them anew.
The Chinese: the thunder god gave Nu-kua and her brother the means to escape a coming flood. China is a most fascinating place where the story of the Bible is found in its ancient script.
Egypt: The god Ra sought to kill humans because of their mutterings against him; he sent Hathor-Sekhet to do this.
Greek: Prometheus warned his son Deucalion that Zeus was about to send a flood so he built an ark and escaped with his wife pyrrha.
Hindu: The god Vishnu warned Manu of the coming flood so he escaped in a boat.
Irish: Cessair, Noah’s grand-daughter was refused a place in the ark but escaped with 50 women and three men in Ireland.
Korea: An old woman and two daughters and a son of a divine being escaped to repopulate the earth.
Lithuanian: There are various stories of a flood legend with a few people escaping.
Mesopotamian: Many are knowledgable of these stories of the god Ea warning Atrahasis or of Utnapishtim being warned by Ea; then there is Enki warning Ziusudra that Enlil would destroy the world by a flood.
This idea of a universal flood includes accounts from New Zealand, North and South America’s natives, the Inuit, the Pacific Islands, Siberia, Taiwanese, Thailand and several other Asian ethnic groups. So universal is the idea of a world flood, even pre-dating the biblical account, it cannot be avoided. Not only are the flood stories universal, but so are the great themes of the Bible such as the Creation, the Fall of man after creation and the presence of sin or sinfulness, and God’s remedy for restoration to the heavenly family. If humans were the product of evolution coming out of nothing to living matter, to plants and animals to humans, why and how could they develop such great epics of their origins? And just as important, why do physical and scientific evidences across the entire planet support these biblical ideas of creation, a world flood, and a Great Designer?
There’s only one answer, friends, and that is that God created us all in the first place. And like the people of Noah’s flood, God will hold mankind today accountable for what we do with the revelation He has given us. I will therefor like to appeal to all who read this article to stand up and be counted. Do not dilly-dally, you cannot afford to be indecisive; now while we have life let us make decisions for a better world, a better life, and let us have a desire to inform our neighbour of this invitation that God has extended to humanity- to be restored to the cosmic family of the eternal God.
To postpone this decision may cost you, your family, your friends, a life of eternity where there will be no more death, pain, sickness, crying and violence. Please do not be shilly-shally, your destiny is in your hands, may God grant you the wisdom to make a wise decision for Him and for life.
In my next newsletter I will like to look at the reliability of the Bible. Can human beings rely on the teachings of this book for a better life?
