Are we to take the Bible seriously in our lives today?
How important is the Bible to humanity? I mean, is it a life and death matter? Are we safe to follow our governments when they disparage parts of the Bible, or when they persecute us for teaching topics which run against their laws? What about the schools that teach that the Bible is not to be taken seriously and that it contains hate literature, which today includes speaking against homosexuality, abortion and consensual sexual behaviour, should we reject the Bible then?
Of course, there is one thing we know for sure and that is this world was once destroyed completely by a global flood. Scientific evidence shows this without a doubt. Admittedly there are many scientists who disagree with this not because the facts are wrong, but because they make it clear that they refuse to believe in God and so must find other evidence to prove their assertions in favour of atheism. Yet in so doing they have not provided any valid points to disprove the biblical evidence of a global flood. When we consider the biblical reasons for a global flood then we begin to understand the consequences of dis-believing or believing in the Bible. The people before the flood refused to believe the warnings God gave to Noah. As a result of their unbelief, they all lost their lives.
Similarly today, biblical Christians are telling the world that Jesus will return to this earth to remove all the godly people from earth and take them to live a thousand years in heaven after which they will return to live in a new, joyful and sinless earth. These declarations to individuals of this return of Christ to earth, the destruction of sin and wickedness and of those that hold on to sin and reject God are not based on wishful thinking nor are they conspiratorial talk. The strength of these warnings to humans are based on the accuracy of God’s word as witnessed in the fulfilment of its past prophecies, evidence of the global flood, the convicting and transforming power of God’s Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, and in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those that hear and accept these warnings and turn to God.
If we choose to reject the Bible as our standard of life on earth, then what standard are humans to live by? Well, let us have a look. We will look at God’s standards first then man’s standards next.
These are God’s simple standards, and they include other good laws on health, diet, order and civic duties. As pointed out above these laws of God can be summed up as love and respect for the creator God in the first division of the ten commandments (laws 1-4) and love and respect for ones’ fellowman in the second division of the ten commandments (laws 6-10). Remnants of these standards for good government can be seen in every nation on earth from time immemorial. However, over the millennia the true divine pattern became corrupted until we are left with a smorgasbord of Judeo-Christian concepts and a paganistic, secular, atheistic-communistic concept. In our modern world today, we see a watered-down Judeo-Christian concept directed by united Protestantism and Catholicism with a secular-communistic concept vying for supremacy for world governance.
As we zoom in closer at these governments to today, we find that leaders are now going all out to promote a lifestyle that is totally godless and unfortunately, the presence of the Christian organisations amongst them do not in any substantial way push back to turn the tide of evil significantly. It appears that an atheistic socialist, even verging on a communistic philosophy is the order of the day.
The Roman Catholic church has been very prominent, if not singular, in combining or fusing Judeo-Christianity with paganism all across the world while the Protestant Judeo-Christian societies seemed, to their detriment, more accommodative of the irreligious secular societies. Presently it seems that the Catholic Judeo-Christian society is in a sort of uproar over the behaviour of their present leader Mr. Francis, their pope. There is feeling that he is trying to interfere with their Magisterium in order to accommodate paganism (similar to what happened in the earlier centuries during the Roman Empire and post Roman rule), this is seen particularly in Mr. Francis’ fraternity with the tribes of the Amazon and his acceptance of the shamans from other areas of the world, going as far as seemingly accommodating so called pagan worship even in the Vatican.[1] Perhaps Mr. Francis’ Fratelli Tutti encyclical [2] is a good example of this as he seeks to follow in the Steps of Francis of Assisi. Many Catholic devotees are also unhappy with their leader’s apparent acceptance of same sex behaviour.[3]
In today’s world it almost common knowledge that the Protestants and the Roman Catholics have strongly merged with an almost fully united front and this unity is becoming stronger as time goes by. And this is what is shaping the attitudes and actions of humanity, and much of it, as we see today, is contrary to the guide that God has given humanity.
When we look at the big picture of our world today in light of this Protestant/Catholic merger, we find that the United States, the main Super Power in the world, was becoming the driving force pushed by the Protestants, under girded by the Catholics, to control human behaviour; however, the recent Coup D’état in their 2020 elections perpetuated by the Democrats and political parties from around the world, especially China,[4] seems to indicate a struggle in America between the Democrats and elitists from around the world together with the communists (China/Russia) against the conservative Republicans of America for the control of world governance and with that human behaviour. The Bible, however, makes it very clear, in spite of what we see in the US at the present, that the United States will be the chief political force working on behalf of united religions that will direct human behaviour especially in the area of worship.[5] In the following scriptural passages we see why it is very important for all humans to know what God says would happen if we refuse to follow His guide found in the Bible for humans; these passages also contains God’s earnest appeal to humanity:
Isa. 1:19, 20: If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.
Eze. 33:11: Say unto them, As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn you, turn you from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?
Rev. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly, hold that fast which you have that no man take your crown.
Rev. 22:7 Behold, I come quickly, blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of the book.
Rev. 22:12 And behold I come quickly, and my reward is with me to give every man according as his work shall be.
1 John 3:10 In this the followers of God and those who do not follow God is manifested: he who does not do righteously neither loves his fellowman is not of God.
These texts tell us that if we follow God’s instructions found in His Word, the Bible, we have nothing to fear for the future for God has pledged to help us endure to the end and to return for us to take us to heaven for a thousand years and to later establish us on the renewed earth where there will be no trace of sin in our lives. Revelation 21:1-8 gives a very beautiful picture of this invitation to accept God with its wonderful consequences. My wish is for you to make the choice for God and for life. Here is how the text encourages us:
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 Revelation 21:1-8.”
