An Open Letter to the People of the Earth

Will Jesus really come again for those that accepted Him in their lives and to judge the world?

According to David Jeremiah’s blog, scholars have identified 1,845 different biblical references to the Second Coming; in the Old Testament (OT) Christ’s return is emphasized in no less than 17 books, while in the New Testament (NT) authors speak of it in 23 of the 27 books. Seven out of 10 chapters in the NT mention His return. In other words, 1 out of every 30 verses in the NT teaches us that Jesus Christ is coming back to this earth.[i]  We showed in  previous articles how the Bible is a well-documented historical work and history shows the prophetic statements of this same Bible have been accurately fulfilled, so we can read with certainty that what is said about the second coming of Jesus will indeed transpire.

As we seek to find out what the Bible says about the second coming of Jesus it is appropriate to first see what Jesus says about His second coming. Today we know that Jesus was and is real; enough historical data clinches this beyond a doubt. Of course, there is always room for doubt-and for consequences like Noah’s 120 years of un-reciprocal warnings to the antediluvians of a coming fatal disaster. Resorting to science in order to dismiss the counsel and admonition of the Bible will not invalidate the fact that all men, the good and the rejecters of God, will one day stand before the real Judge of the universe when He returns to earth, to have individuals give an account for their actions.  And the Bible seeks to have everyone in a good relationship with God before this event takes place.

Here are a few of Jesus statements on His return to earth.

  1. In the gospel of John 14:2, 3 we read where Jesus says to his disciples: “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3 (CWSB).”
  2. Speaking of the end of the world Jesus tells his disciples: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14 (CWSB)
  3. Jesus says to His followers: “Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man will come.” Matthew 24:44 (CWSB).
  4. Jesus even told the High Priest that had Him arrested that he himself will see Jesus come: “Jesus said unto him, you have said it: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven. Matthew 26:64.” (CWSB)
  5. In all three verses of John 6:40, 44, 54 Jesus says that He will “raise up at the last day” all those who believe in Him.
  6. In Revelation 3:11; 22:7, 12 Jesus says to his believers, “behold I come quickly.”

Let us read what the angels say about the second coming of Jesus.

  1. As the amazed disciples and people watched Jesus taken up into heaven two angels there said to them, “you men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11 (CWSB).
  2. Once when Jesus, while living among men, met two men possessed of evil angels, these evil angels “cried out, saying, what have we to do with you, Jesus, you Son of God? Have you come hither to torment us before the time?” Matthew 8:29 (CWSB). ‘To torment us before the time’ is reference to the second coming when this will be done. Matthew 25:41 makes it clear that the devil and his followers will be destroyed.
  3. In Revelation 12:12 and 1 Pet. 5:8 we read that the devil knows his time on earth is short so he seeks to deceive as many people as he can.

Let us now look at some of the beautiful promises of the second coming:

  1. 1 Cor. 15:51-55. Here we are told that Jesus will return and abolish death…
  2. 1Thess. 4:13-18 Those who sleep in Jesus will rise again. This is called the noisiest passage on the second coming…
  3. 2 Tim. 4:6-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished the fight…Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love His appearing.

These passages tell us very clearly that Jesus will most certainly return to earth to fetch His people and take them to heaven where places of abode are prepared for them.  The important questions are, do you readers believe this? Do we recognize that sin will destroy us unless it is repented of and confessed to God? Do we realize that we are making a choice between eternal life and eternal death?  Please remember that Noah pled and warned the antediluvians of God’s decision to destroy the earth, because of its wickedness and rebellion in 120 days. Not one person outside of Noah’s family believed his warnings! And what were the consequences?  They all perished in the flood!

Today there is ample evidence of a global flood catastrophe. None can escape the evidence, only sheer denial and rejection of the evidence can cause us to dismiss this global disaster. And of course the consequences of rejecting God’s call to repentance today will be the same, total destruction. Please do not allow that to be your situation, dear readers; it would be the biggest gambol of one’s life that will surely lead to forfeiture of eternal happiness in a world without sin, suffering, pain and death. Just as Noah warned the inhabitants of the old world of the impending disaster; today we Christians are doing the same, we are asking people to accept God’s safety provisions and not self-destruct. May the Almighty help you my dear readers to accept those safety provisions before it is too late.

I leave with you this beautiful passage found in the book of Revelation that God has given to all of us that live in this turbulent, rebellious, violent and evil world:

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.  He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:1-7 (CWSB)

Are not these words comforting and reassuring? Why would anyone choose to reject this offer to put away his rebellious ways and simply accept Jesus into his life and live forever in a world where there will be no more death, suffering, exploitation, and evil? There will be no more rich and poor individuals, all will live equally together; there will be no more ethnic discrimination, we will all recognize that of one blood God made all nations of men to live and enjoy life together; there will be no more extremes in our weather, we will have one harmonious and enjoyable weather for eternity! Sounds incredible? Yes, because we are so used to such disparities in life, we have come to think that this is the norm, but God has shown us in His love letter to us, the Bible, that this is not the norm, but the abnormal.

This is what Satan and sin have caused, but in God’s new world all this will be a thing of the past. The future will be eternal and glorious, we cannot afford to miss out on this my dear friends. Please accept Jesus now into your lives and prepare to live with Him in eternal happiness and contentment in the near future when He returns for you.  May His blessings ever be with those that are preparing for this great reset from this world of sin, death, violence and injustice to His new world of harmony, beauty and righteousness where none will hurt the other, and there will be no more wars! Let us plan on being there my fellow humans. Until then.
